I had the pleasure of attending Honey Shine, Inc.‘s 10th Annual Hats Off Luncheon. A new friend, Cherise A. Williams, invited me to attend this fundraiser luncheon to support + inspire young girls to shine as women.
The event featured a reception, an amazingly impressive silent auction, and a fashion + performance showcase by the mentees (known as Honey Bugs). I have attended a lot of fundraisers. I can honestly say that the Hats Off Luncheon auction had so many items that I wanted to take home with me.
From sports paraphernalia, to purses, to trips, to gift baskets + food. The auction provided a lot of opportunity for the 500+ women in attendance to support. In the end, I ended up winning the auction for the Coconut Grove Women’s club. I haven’t decided how I’ll use it, but I know it will be divine.

Something that stood out for me was the creativity in all of the hats at the event. I have big hair, which doesn’t allow me to wear hats. Even for this event, I wore a fastener on my locs. But I got a few quick shots during the auction.
The luncheon, MC’d by Local 10′s Neki Mohan and Jailyn Anderson was tasty + entertaining. The Honey Bugs shared their gift with us as they strutted down the runway, sang their hearts out and danced across the floor. Like with Honey Shine’s Art of Entertaining event earlier this year, I left feeling motivated and inspired by the young women involved and the work they are doing. As Tracie Wilson Mourning said during the luncheon, “not only did they look good, more importantly they feel good!”
